Bangkok’s shopping malls are some of the best places to shop in Thailand – so hopefully you’re ready to shop ‘til you drop and blow your budget in Bangkok!
Bangkok has big shopping malls and stupendous shopping centers, many of which have themed interiors (plus incredible food courts to ‘reward’ yourself afterwards in).
Bustling Bangkok is a retail mecca – there are a lot of shopping centers and shopping malls in Bangkok to choose from, from riverside retail and rooftop gardens to midtown markets and fine fashion furnishings.
Given how big some of the Bangkok shopping malls are plus all their awesome attractions inside like aquariums or adventure parks, cinemas or themed bathrooms, you could easily spend the whole day shopping in one mall in Bangkok (if your credit card will allow it!).
From the waterside wonder of ICONSIAM to the sublime stylings of Terminal 21 Rama3 (Bangkok’s quirkiest and shopping center) plus the newly opened Emsphere, here is our guide to the best shopping malls in Bangkok for 2024:

1. ICONSIAM
The jewel in the Bangkok shopping mall scene, the waterfront ICONSIAM looms large over the Chao Phraya river, like a glistening beacon. Great by day, it is even better to visit this mall in Bangkok at night.
Opened in late 2018 to much fanfare, ICONSIAM is an iconic shopping center, very popular with tourists and overseas travellers.
In fact, many of the evening dinner cruises depart from ICONSIAM (we can recommend the Meridian cruise as part of the Go City Bangkok pass) so you could easily spend a day dining and shopping here before departing on an evening cruise.
There is so much to see at ICONSIAM mall from the SIAM Takashimaya centre (several floors of Japanese shops and food-courts) through to the themed floating market style food court on the ground floor of ICONSIAM. There are many luxury retailers and boutiques too including Dior, Chanel and Hermes.
ICONSIAM has various bars and restaurants located over its 10 stories. Plus the ICONSIAM Starbucks is one of the best Starbucks in Bangkok with an incredible outdoor deck offering stunning views of the Chao Phraya river at the Bangkok skyline at night.

2. Emsphere Mall
As of early 2024, Emsphere is Bangkok’s newest major shopping mall having opened to much fanfare in December 2023 in Sukhumvit.
A sprawling shopping center with a new walkway linking it to is sister shopping centres (Emquartier and Emporium), Emsphere has twelve storeys of shopping plus themed zones like Em Lifestyle on level 1, Em Innovation on level 2 plus Em Wonder on level (which includes one of Bangkok’s best new rooftop bars – Sky Beach Club).
There are even several car showrooms in Emsphere selling everything from Porsches to Lamborghinis (you don’t get that at the MBK Center).
The ground floor food court at Emsphere (Em Market) is particularly cool, a rich mix of Thai, Japanese, Asian and international eateries with some cool features and designs, like neon lights and a huge waving neko cat.
We stopped by Co Limited restaurant for a terrific Thai fusion meal – the meals were as remarkable as the decor!
IKEA Emsphere has also taken over a couple of upper levels including an IKEA food court – it is really cheap and has views looking out over Bangkok (one of the best cheap eats if you are visiting Bangkok on a budget).
At the time of our visit in early 2024, many of the upper floors are still under construction including the still-to-open Camden Market style shopping center on floor 5 plus a theater space.
Keep an eye out for the rather splendid lit-up LED staircase at the main entrance from the walkway into Emsphere, from Emquartier.

3. centralwOrld (Rama I Road)
Not just one of the largest shopping malls in Bangkok but also one the top 10 largest malls in the world.
With seven floors of shopping (plus so many good restaurants), there is a lot to enjoy at centralwOrld – plus for us, it puts on the best Christmas display of any Bangkok shopping mall every year.
For instance, last year, they had a huge Line Friends Christmas winter Village outside. Pre COVID times, centralwOrld was also the epicentre for many New Year’s Eve entertainment and countdowns.
centralwOrld often has pop-up events in the square outside with an alfresco food-court and hundreds of dancing fountains.
On one of our most recent trips to centralwOrld, we also discovered their new Japanese themed food-court and shopping area (Japan Avenue Food Court), which opened in spring 2023 – this area has epic theming and so many good Japanese restaurants to choose from.

4. Emquartier
A luxury shopping mall in Bangkok with such prestigious shops as Dior, Chanel and Gucci, opulent Emquartier opened in 2015 and is now one of Bangkok’s best shopping centers.
It also helps that it is close to the Sukhumvit / Asok areas, where many tourist hotels are located, plus has a direct walkway from Phrom Phong BTS station.
Emquartier is split up into several distinct shopping areas including the Glass Quarter, the Waterfall Quarter, plus the star of the show, the Helix Quarter.
The Helix Quarter at Emquartier for us is one of the most unique shopping experiences in Bangkok, an architectural awesome helix building and walkway that has dozens of restaurants either side.
You literally walk up a spiral sloped path past all the restaurants, with stunning views and greenery draped from the roof.
The Starbucks here also has an incredible terrace with nice views of the Bangkok City skyline plus nearby Benchasiri Park.
We also like the Quartier Food Hall on the basement level of Emquartier plus the Gourmet Eats Take Home Shop (packed full of delicious dessert and sweet treats).

5. Terminal 21 Asok
Perhaps the best known Terminal 21 shopping mall in Bangkok, located in Sukhumvit, Terminal 21 Asok was the first to open, having launched in October 2011.
You might also know this as the Bangkok mall that has a huge Golden Gate bridge, London bus and giant Oscar statue (the theming here is excellent!)
The most popular Terminal 21 in Thailand, this is also how the shopping mall chain got its name; “21” refers to Soi Sukhumvit 21 (Asok Montri Road) where this mall is located.
Terminal 21 has several storeys of retail stores, plus an excellent Pier21 food court (so cheap!) and a cinema level. It is located right next to Asok BTS station and Sukhumvit MRT station.
In our minds, Terminal 21 Asok has the cheapest food court (Pier 21) in the whole of Bangkok. Most dishes cost around 30 THB to 50 THB.
The international themes at Terminal 21 Asok are the Caribbean, London, Rome, Tokyo, Istanbul, Paris, San Francisco and Hollywood.
There are so many international restaurants to enjoy here too like Fuji Restaurant (opening summer 2023), Tim Ho Wan, MK restaurant, Mos Burger and Peppers.
And in case you are curious, we’d rate this Terminal 21 Asok very highly (especially given its transport links) but the international theming and cartoon statues are much better at the newer Terminal 21 Rama3.

6. The Platinum Fashion Mall Bangkok
Any mall with the word ‘platinum’ in title has to be good and thankfully, Bangkok’s The Platinum Fashion Mall certainly delivers.
As well as aimed at consumers and general shoppers, its inner sanctum is crammed full of wholesale stalls (around 2,500 stalls to be precise) across six floors.
We would note that this mall has more independent fashion retailers as opposed to known brands or luxury goods.
Platinum Fashion Mall bills itself as “… Thailand’s largest wholesale shopping destination”… and based on our experience, it is certainly one the cheapest shopping malls in Bangkok (and also where a little haggling is expected on the upper levels).
It also names each floor after destinations like Camden in London, Oxford and Ginza in Japan.
Every floor is fashion focussed other than level 6 which is has mobile accessories and electrical goods. Platinum Fashion Mall also has a superb food-court (Platinum Food Center) which gets VERY crowded at lunchtime with workers from the nearby offices.

7. Terminal 21 Rama3
There are a lot of shopping malls in Bangkok to choose from but Terminal 21 Rama3 is retail heaven with some unique theming and designs – it is one good looking and fun shopping center.
One of the newest malls in Bangkok (it opened in late 2022) with an incredible riverside setting, every level at Terminal 21 Rama3 represents a different international country.
You’ll find a Harry Potter style train (platform 3½) and huge London Tower Bridge on the English level, plus some snow monkey themed toilets on the Japanese floor.
Terminal 21 Rama3 has dozens of restaurants with fine food fare from all over the world, plus a themed (and very cheap!) food court on the top floor. Top brands like Uniqlo and Adidas also have shops here.

8. Asiatique The Riverfront Shopping Center
If you want to try something a little different, the alfresco Asiatique shopping area (Bangkok Asiatique: The Riverfront) might be for you.
Situated on the banks of Bangkok’s Chao Phraya river, Asiatique Riverfront offers a mix of permanent shops, night market stalls, restaurants and entertainment plus you can arrive in style via the free river shuttle (from the pier near Saphan Taksin BTS station).
Asiatique Riverfront is a night-time shopper’s and food lover’s paradise, billed as Bangkok’s first ‘large-scale riverside shopping centre’.
We’d estimate Asiatique Riverfront outdoor shopping centre to have more like 250 stalls and shops plus about 30 bars and restaurants.
You’ll find a few chain restaurants like Swensen’s and KFC, plus many new stalls at Bangkok Asiatique Riverfront are planned in 2023, and regular pop-up exhibitions like the recent Disney 100 celebration.
Once you’ve finished shopping at Asiatique, there is much to enjoy in terms of fine dining or entertainment including the Calypso cabaret evening show, the brand new Siam Tea Room tea-house or the new Crystal Grill House, the most ‘glamorous’ grill house on the river in Bangkok.
The Sirimahannop heritage ship restaurant (a fancy place for a floating feast) is also highly recommended after a day of shopping at Asiatique.

9. Siam Paragon
A sleek and stunning shopping center in Bangkok, Siam Paragon has around 300 stores, plus huge attractions like the Sea Life Bangkok, a fluorescent bowling alley plus Thailand’s largest cinema (Paragon Cineplex & IMAX).
For us, the food-court in Siam Paragon, Gourmet Market – is one of the best food courts in Bangkok (the focus is more on quality than quantity) although it can get very busy for the restaurants with small seating areas.
There are many luxury stores in Siam Paragon including Yves St Laurent, Gucci and Burberry – also brands include Superdry, Zara and Balenciaga. Also check out one of the most beautiful bookstores in Bangkok – KinoKuniya.
A new H&M clothing store plus H&M Home stores also recently opened at Siam Paragon.

10. Siam Center
Originally one of Bangkok’s very first luxury shopping centers (built in the 1970s), Siam Center has constantly reinvented and rebranded itself over the years to still rank as one of the must visit shopping malls in Bangkok.
Even in 2024, they are adding new attractions like Thailand’s first Gundam anime store.
From Sephora to Victoria’s Secret, you could easily complete all your shopping needs under Siam Center’s one roof, then reward yourself in the Food Factory food court on the top floor (a mixture of food court stalls and permanent restaurants around the sides).
Compared to other shopping malls in Bangkok, Siam Center is quite low, comprising of just four floors – Fashion Avenue on ground, Fashion Galleria on 1, Fashion Visionary on level 2 and the Food Factory on level 2.
Also keep an eye out for the rather cool / official Bandai Namco Gachapon shop on level 1.

11. MBK Center
A sometimes welcome respite from the humid and hot temperatures in Bangkok, the MBK Shopping centre has INCREDIBLE air-conditioning and is one of the best loved malls in Bangkok.
With over 2,000 outlets to shop and eat at across 8 levels, the MBK centre is one of Bangkok’s biggest malls.
Part of the reason for its popularity (over 100k shoppers a day at its peak) is the upper levels have an Aladdin’s Cave of cheap cloth stalls (kind of reminiscent of an indoors Chatuchak Market) – so you can get your cheap beer T-shirts and elephant pants, plus all manner of souvenirs.
The MBK street food court (Food Legends) is renowned too – grab a cash card from the cash desk and go crazy with most dishes 50 THB to 150 THB including omelette oysters.
We also can’t visit MBK Centre without a trip to Don Don Donki, a Japanese discount store known as Don Quijote in Japan. Don Don Donki is easy to find when at MBK – just look for the brightly coloured tuk-tuk or listen for the fun ‘Don Don Donki’ theme tune as you get close (it plays on loop; the staff must go crazy).
MBK is one of the few malls to also have an entertainment centre in Bangkok which includes weekly muay thai boxing events plus regular Thai dance and traditional performance shows.
MBK Centre is also the place for your favourite international food brands with branches of Tim Hortons, Thailand’s first Big Boy burger branch (from Japan) plus even a brand new sushi restaurant operated by Don Don Donki which opened in April 2023.
We’d highly recommend the Japanese restaurant Kenshin Izakaya for its themed interiors and inexpensive but high quality food.

12. Siam Discovery mall in Bangkok
A little different from most other Bangkok malls in this area of downtown, Siam Discovery is perhaps most famous for its ‘Exploratorium’, the largest lifestyle specialty space in the whole of Thailand (their words).
The space is split into various labs, like the Creative Lab (Kitchen and Furniture items), Digital Lab (IT and audio), Play Lab (books and comics) and Street Lab (fashion and shoes).
Siam Discovery is very much focussed on retail and unlike other malls, there are no other distractions – no cinemas or aquariums nor food courts etc.
Given its close proximity between Siam Paragon, Siam Center and MBK Center, this is a nice mall to combine with others for the ultimate day of shopping.
Siam Discovery is also renowned for its pop-up activations like K-pop stages and Pride celebrations, plus Japanese design and stores.

13. Siam Square One
One of the smaller Bangkok malls on this list, Siam Square One is often overlooked due to its close proximity to bigger and better nearby malls like Siam Paragon and MBK.
Based over seven levels, whilst it isn’t quite as bright and breezy as the others, it is an adequate mall, perhaps best known for its epic Eve and Boy Underground store.

14. Silom Edge
Bangkok’s newest mall is mostly a food affair with a large food-court based over two levels (a basement food-court plus an upstairs dining area). Silom Edge is a slick, clean and good looking affair, although one of the smaller shopping centers in Bangkok.
Popular with the young (lots of selfie spots and bright colours), Silom Edge is cheap as with neon lights, white tables and quirky toilets all par for the course.
Food is really cheap here. For instance, we dined at Silom Edge’s Phra Nakhon boat noodles restaurant one night which was super popular, dishing out bowls of meat and noodles for as low as 20 Baht (larger bowls were available for 80 Baht).
Open 24 hours, Silom Edge has a nice mix of standard chain restaurants like KFC, Swensen’s (and a large 7-Eleven to boot) plus other restaurants like Cha Tra Mue.
There is also talk of the first and second floors at The Edge Silom becoming a lifestyle, fashion and technology zone, with the third and fourth storeys floors for beauty and spas and the ninth floor for bars and pubs.

15. River City Bangkok
One of several riverside malls in Bangkok featured in this best shopping center in Bangkok guide, River City is smack bang on the Chao Phraya River near Talat Noi, with several waterside bars and restaurants to enjoy on the ground level.
This is also the best shopping malls in Bangkok for sunset views of the river (ICONSIAM is facing the wrong way).
Whilst this is more of a functional Bangkok shopping center rather than a glitzy glamorous luxury centre, it is nice place to unwind plus several tour companies operate from here including Bigcountry Experience (as featured on the Go City Bangkok pass), the Thai Bus Food Tour and Co Van Kessel biking tours.
It also has one of the most unique shops we can recall in Bangkok – a shop space covered in sand with river views where you can paint your own canvas as a take home souvenir – how cool?
River City is owned by the nearby Mandarin Oriental Hotel and also has some smart temporary art exhibitions. Note that it can get crowded in the early evening as this is where many Bangkok evening dinner cruises depart from.

16. Central Ladprao mall in Bangkok
Handily located close to the brand new Jodd Fairs Danneramit night market which opened in April 2023, Central Ladprao is a huge shopping mall located right next to Ha Yaek Lat Phrao station.
Central Ladprao has hundreds of shops and international brands from Levis to Daiso, Marks & Spencers to Muji.
Best of all, we really liked the colossal food court in the basement which had around 50 different restaurants and food stalls including many international food outlets.
Built in the 1980s, this is your classic Bangkok mall that benefits from being close to Chatuchak weekend market and the new Jodd Fairs Danneramit night market.

17. Erawan Mall
An upscale high end mall connected to the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel (and very close to the Erawan shrine), the Erawan Mall is currently undergoing major construction work so not many stores were open when we visited (other than a couple of pop-ups and an empty exhibition.
There were a few restaurants open at Erawan Mall in June 2023 such as El Gaucho, Erawan Tea Room and The Residence but other than that, it was eerily quiet – more security guards than shoppers.
The only thing worth gazing at was the circular stair-case structure (kinda like clouds – quite cute).
We’d say to watch this space with Erawan Mall because it looks like a big transformation is currently under wraps (literally what with all the boards and sheeting).

18. SIAMSCAPE mall in Bangkok
Opened in 2022 as Siam Square’s newest shopping centre, SIAMSCAPE is a mixed (shopping) bag in terms of Bangkok’s best malls.
Personally, we wouldn’t recommend it for shopping as it is seemingly mainly beauty clinics and education providers inside – however the rooftop garden at SIAMSCAPE is pretty sweet, especially at sunset (and free to visit).
SIAMSCAPE is brightly lit inside (wear sunglasses!) and comprises of LIFESCAPE on floors 1 and 2 (mainly beauty clinics), FOODSCAPE on level 3 (restaurants like Texas Chicken, Ramyun Korean Noodles, Starbucks, Fresh Me and Dooki Korean Topokki Buffet) plus parking on levels 4 to 7. There is also a 7-Eleven with city views on level 9 – nice!
Unless any of that sounds appealing, just head on straight up in the lift / elevator to level 10 for SKYSCAPE, SIAMSCAPE’s glorious roof garden.
Grab a coffee from Uni Coffee Roasteru on the same level and enjoy it outdoors – you may also recognise the wooden seating step area at SIAMSCAPE from Instagram.

19. La Villa Ari
La Villa Ari is a Bangkok shopping centre and mini mall that comprises around 20 cafes and restaurants (many of which are Japanese) plus La Villa Market, billed as Thailand’s first international supermarket.
Although it is your typical mall, La Villa Ari mall benefits from being right next to Ari BTS plus the exterior is quite nice, with fountains, trees and balconies covered in shrubs and greenery.
It looked a bit like the Ewok village from Star Wars to be honest! La Villa Market is well stocked and has multiple international food aisles (many expats live here) plus the air con is rock solid.
Restaurants and shops at La Villa Ari include Fuji Japanese restaurant, Jones Grocer, Captain Squid, Starbucks Coffee, Greyhound Cafe, Sushi Shiro and Coco ichibana.

20. London Street Pattanakarn
Heard about the Bangkok mall that is themed like London (and no, we aren’t talking about Terminal 21 Asok or Rama3)? Welcome to London Street Pattanakarn.
Whilst certainly one of the smallest malls in Bangkok, what it lacks in size is certainly made up for with quirky charm.
Even the outside of the London Street Pattanakarn has a huge Big Ben replica (for those that don’t know, Big Ben is the colossal clock tower in London by the River Thames and Houses of Parliament).
This is more of a strip mall with London / British theming plus several chain restaurants like Yayoi, MK Buffet and Miyazaki teppanyaki.

21. ICS Mall
Located immediately behind ICONSIAM with a direct walkway between the two, ICS Mall opened in early 2023 making it one of the newest malls in Bangkok.
Whilst nowhere near the scale of ICONSIAM, this is a modern mixed use mall (try saying that ten times quickly!) with some good retail options and a good looking food court (called Daily Tasty).
Given its size, ICS Mall isn’t worth a special visit in itself but if you want to escape the crowds associated with ICONSIAM next door, you could do worse.

22. Gaysorn Village / Gaysorn Centre
Located between CentralWorld and The Market malls, Gaysorn Village isn’t really a destination shopping mall and has seemingly lost most of its shoppers over the years.
There appear to be no flagship stores at Gaysorn Village nor luxury shopping, mainly independent stores – we recognised a few brands like Victorianox knives and Leica cameras but little else.
Gaysorn VIllage has five floors and other than the restaurant section, the whole building appears very dated.
Gaysorn Village has several restaurants and food counters on the third floor including Mont Blanc by Kyo Roll En, Menya Itto and De Toummour Thai food plus the world’s only Riedel wine bar.
We feel the whole mall needs a refresh e.g one of the banners said that one of its restaurants, Paste, was ranked number 7 in the Top Table 2017 awards (modern!)
Note that ‘Bangkok’s hidden shrine’ at Gaysorn Village is currently closed to the public as of June 2023.

23. The Market Bangkok
Like the Gaysorn Village Centre mall next door, this Bangkok shopping center has seen much better days.
When we last visited in June 2023, the vast majority of stores were boarded up and seeking new tenants. Based on what we could see, it looks like they might be planning new developments.
The only ‘attractions’ as such were a temporary children’s ice exhibition on the ground floor (Ice Magic – Fantasy On Ice), a sad looking Starbucks and a medium sized Moshi Moshi.
Randomly, during our visit, there was also a Japanese girl band (J-pop) called Journey playing to a small crowd of sweaty men – nice!
We’re always in The Market for the best shopping centers in Bangkok but this one has its work cut out – that said, this is OK if you are looking for a very quiet Bangkok mall to grab a coffee in!

24. Gateway Ekamai Shopping Mall
One of the lesser known Bangkok shopping malls, Gateway Ekamai in Thonglor is a shopping mall that is easily accessible from the Ekamai BTS station.
It is literally metres away from the BTS station with a covered walkway making this a great all weather shopping center.
Gateway Ekamai comprises 8 levels of shopping and entertainment and has a vast amount of Japanese chain restaurants like Sukiya, Ringer Hut and Tendon Tenya Tempura (all based in the Urban Market on the ground floor). There is also a branch of Daiso here.
Look out for the cute waving cats (maneki-neko) statue outside the mall.

25. Central Rama 9
Although not as modern or sparkling as some of the other best Bangkok malls on this list, Central Rama 9 shopping center is still a pretty good place to purchase goods or gifts (especially in Robinsons Department Store) or grab a bite to eat in the Food Republic dining area or outlets like the South Korean Mom’s Touch burger joint, Ippudo or MK.
Nearby, you’ll also find the smaller Fortune Town shopping center, which specialises in photography, IT and computing equipment plus the original Jodd Fairs (which is soon to be replaced by the newer Jodd Fairs Rama 3).

26. Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok
15 minutes drive from Suvarnabhumi Airport, Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok is an out-of-town Bangkok shopping mall that is famous for its big brands at low prices.
With over 100 stores and famous stores like Adidas and Nike, this is a great place to get cheap trainers or low price fashionwear with upto 70% off normal prices.
There are also a number of restaurants at Siam Premium Outlets including Bonchon, Sushi Plus and Hong Kong noodles.
Although a little far out of the city near Sub airport, there is a regular shuttle bus service from Siam Paragon to Siam Premium Outlet costing 100 baht per trip.

27. Amarin Plaza Bangkok
Please note that at the time of writing, Amarin Plaza is currently undergoing MAJOR renovation works so all of the shops are vacant, with a small food court the only thing open.
It is mainly used as a cut-through to nearby office buildings and the car-park.
