Are you ‘coming soon’ to Bangkok or Thailand? If so, Cabbages and Condoms restaurants are quite like no other dining experience in Thailand; a quirky ‘night-time’ bite in Bangkok.
Cabbages and Condoms has several restaurants all over Thailand but likely the most famous is one is located in Bangkok.
Set in a verdant rainforest setting (yet still in the heart of urban Bangkok), this Thailand condom restaurant is quite the experience – and yes, there are condoms strewn all around (not so many cabbages) with a safe sex gift-shop as well;
The best bit about visiting this restaurant is that profits are reinvested into charitable causes for young or disadvantaged people across Thailand

How Cabbages and Condoms Began
Cabbages and Condoms started life as a small vegetable stall in Bangkok that as well as selling vegetables, also sold condoms and oral contraceptives to the local residents.
The stall owner Mechai Viravaidya (AKA Mr Condom) called the original shop “Cabbages and Condoms” as he hoped that condom use would become as popular as cabbages – hence Cabbages and Condoms was born.
Money from meals at Cabbages and Condoms is used to support development programmes initiated by the Population and Community Development Association (PDA).
The Restaurant is now one of the most popular restaurants in Bangkok, with multiple branches across Thailand (particularly in the tourist areas of Thailand like Pattaya) serving delicious Thai food and promoting the use of condoms in Thailand.
Visiting Cabbages and Condoms Bangkok
We visited the Bangkok Cabbages and Condoms in February 2023. The restaurant is located a few minutes walk away from the busy Sukhumvit road and the Nana district (a big lightbox sign on the main road guides your way to the restaurant).
After walking down a dimly lit street, you will find a leafy path that leads you to the entrance.
As you first enter the restaurant, you’ll notice life size mannequins dressed head to toe in colourful condom costumes – as we visited just after Christmas, there was also a Father Christmas and reindeer made out of rubbers (but we can’t guarantee they will be here for your visit – as Christmas only ‘comes’ once a year…)
The restaurant walls at were decorated with condoms from all over the world. and all sorts of other condom related paraphernalia awaits you.
Post a letter home to your folks in the giant condom post box (or maybe not!) or poke your head through a cardboard image of a condom for a funny photo. It is just so beautifully bizarre at Cabbages and Condoms.

The Restaurant Courtyard and Garden
The restaurant is set in a large courtyard dining area, with both outside and inside seating available.
The decoration of the outdoor part of the restaurant is just so pretty – hundreds of twinkly fairy lights and condom lamp shades (!) hang from the trees creating a unique yet lovely ambiance.
Cabbages and Condoms has a stage for live music and a small water-fall – the waterfall is a reminder that some of the money raised helps to teach children to swim in rural villages.
Eating at Cabbages and Condoms
We were seated in the outdoor courtyard area of Cabbages and Condoms Bangkok and warmly greeted; service was wonderful throughout.
The menu was extensive – around 7 or 8 pages of dishes to choose from. For starters, we had the Mieng Khum; an appetiser of dried shrimp, peanuts, ginger, deep-fried coconut, chilli, shallots all wrapped in wild betel leaves for 180 Thai baht.
This was around 7 pieces to share between the two of us. The Mieng Khum is really good at Cabbages and Condoms – it can be hit and miss as a dish depending on where you go but it was spot on here.
For mains we had a pork and chilli basil leaf dish with rice. Also, as big fans of Khao soi noodles (read our guide to the best Chiang Mai Khao soi noodles) we opted to try this. This was an insanely huge portion for of Khao soi noodles at (surprisingly spicy too) which was only 190 Thai Baht (OK for Bangkok, much cheaper at the source in Chiang Mai).
Something for the weekend?
When the bill arrives at Cabbages and Condoms, don’t expect the usual complimentary mints – instead you are presented with a huge basket of condoms to pick from as a parting gift.
You are also given Cabbages and Condoms branded tooth-picks; best not to put them in the same pocket as your free condoms or else an ‘accident’ may ensue…
All in all, we really enjoyed our food at Cabbages and Condoms – our only suggestion would be to tweak the thank you sign as you leave – it says ‘Thank you for your patronage’ but we feel it would be more apt to say ‘Thank you for coming’… (sorry not sorry).

Thailand Condom Restaurant Gift Shop and Cafe
To help further support their charitable work, Cabbages and Condoms Bangkok also has a huge gift shop and cafe at the front of the restaurant. The cafe is open for takeaway coffees and light bites during the day but closed in the evening.
The Thailand condom restaurant gift shop was well stocked with everything from condom flowers and brooches plus branded bottle coolers through to traditional Thai gifts and silks.

Cabbages and Condoms Restaurant Prices
We found the prices to be pretty reasonable especially given a lot of the money goes to helping charitabable initiatives.
For our meals of two mains, a shared starter and soft drinks, we only paid around 795 Thai Baht as at February 2023 (equivalent to $23 USD / £19 or 22 Euros) – this included a 10% service charge and 7% Government tax charge.
Whilst not as cheap as say the food-court in nearby Terminal 21, we thought the prices here were very good at this Thailand condom restaurant and on par with most of the nearby tourist restaurants.
