As of April 2024, Bangkok Airport Grab taxis are now officially available to pick up at the airport, with a new Grab taxi pick-up gate and counter at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok Airport officially opening.

Getting a taxi from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to Bangkok city is now even easier with an official Grab Bangkok Airport taxi pick-up point located on level 1 of the arrivals area.

We were one of the first to use the new Grab Bangkok Airport pick-up point in early April 2024, using the Grab app to take a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Bangkok airport to our Bangkok city hotel.

From Grab taxi prices to Bangkok airport to pick-up point photos, here is our guide to using the new GrabTaxi pick up point at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport in 2024:

Where is the Bangkok Airport Grab taxi pick-up point?

Newly opened in April 2024, the official Bangkok Airport Grab Taxi pick-up point and gate can be found at Gate 4 on the first floor of the Bangkok international airport arrivals hall (in the transport hub section).

After clearing the immigration section, it takes about 2 minutes to reach the Bangkok Airport Grab taxi stand downstairs.

How to find the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Grab Taxi pick up point

It is really simple and easy to get a Grab Taxi from Bangkok Airport – after clearing airport immigration and customs on level 2, take the lift or escalator down one level to the floor below.

On level one of the Bangkok Airport transport hub, head right towards Gate 4 on level 1.

Go through the revolving doors at Gate 4 on level 1 and you’ll see the official Bangkok Airport Grab pick-up point about 25 metres ahead of you.

The Suvarnabhumi Bangkok airport Grab taxi pick-up point is easy to spot as there is Grab taxi branded waiting area and air-conditioned waiting room.

How to order a Grab taxi

It is very easy to order a Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Grab taxi. Use your existing Grab taxi app on your phone (it works in many countries) or download it at Bangkok Airport.

There are branded QR Grab Taxi codes all around the pick-up point to ensure you download the official Grab app.

As the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Grab Taxi pick-up point is located just outside the terminal, ensure you have a Thailand SIM with data (do not rely on the airport wifi as it can be sketchy, especially outside by the Grab Taxi pick-up point).

We’d recommended buying a discounted Thailand 4G SIM from Klook here which you can pick up at Bangkok Airport to ensure you have data to book your Grab taxi at Suvarnabhumi.

You must be waiting at the Bangkok Airport Grab Taxi pick-up point at Gate 4 when you are ready to order your Grab, in case a driver is only seconds away.

Use the Grab app and enter your Bangkok hotel or Bangkok city location in the destination section and then pick which Grab taxi type you’d prefer.

When your Grab taxi arrives, it pulls up directly in front of the green Grab taxi rank waiting room.

Facilities at the Suvarnabhumi Airport Grab taxi pick up point

As of April 2024, there is currently a small air conditioned waiting room plus two Grab staff on hand to assist with any queries (although we used the service on the week of opening so the Grab taxi rank may not always be staffed).

The Grab pick-up point at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport is under cover all the way from gate 4 of the airport so no need to worry if it is raining or very hot – the Grab taxi waiting room has around 10 seats.

The nearest toilets are back inside the terminal, just next to the gate 4 exit on level 1.

Grab Taxis at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week although availability and waiting times will vary greatly, depending on time of day and peak periods.

Based on our own experience, we ordered a Grab taxi at Bangkok Airport gate 4 on level 1 at around noon on a weekday and our taxi arrived in 9 minutes.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Grab taxi and car ride categories and prices

There are several types of Grab taxis available at Bangkok Airport (all with different prices) including:

GrabCar Saver – the cheapest Grab taxi price from Bangkok Airport and usually a smaller car.

Just Grab – the nearest Grab taxi or car and usually the fastest option without the extra expense price or the GrabCar premium or Grab SUV. If you want the cheapest Grab taxi to Bangkok city without any restrictions, this is your best Bangkok Airport Grab taxi price and option.

GrabCar Premium – this is usually a bigger car like a Camry or Accord and classed as a premium sedan ride. It is more expensive than a Just Grab taxi (usually around 25% to 50% more).

Grab SUV – one of the more expensive Grab Taxi rides and trips; this might be better if you have lots of luggage or bigger suitcases.

Please note Grab Bikes are not available at Bangkok Airport from the official Grab taxi pick-up point at Gate 4 (but may be available elsewhere outside the airport)

Bangkok Airport Grab taxi prices and tollway fees

Typically, a Grab Taxi or Grab car from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport should cost between 400 Thai Baht to 600 Thai Baht (plus toll road charges).

Grab taxi prices in Bangkok also depend on the time of day, surge pricing and your final location, as of April 2024.

Please note the Bangkok Airport Grab taxi fare price you see on the app doesn’t include tollway fees – you must pay this separately to the taxi driver at the end of the trip.

As an example, we got a Grab Taxi from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport at midday on a weekday to IconSiam Bangkok shopping mall and our Grab taxi fare was 429 THB plus 75 THB expressway tolls.

Grab Taxi Bangkok express tollway charges vary depending on the size of vehicle and passengers e.g. the toll price for a vehicle carrying 1 to 4 passengers is less than a vehicle carrying 6 to 10 passengers.

Typically, the Bangkok tollway fees from Bangkok Airport to Bangkok city if you’re staying centrally is 75 Thai Baht for a taxi carrying up to 4 passengers.

This Bangkok tollway fee consists of the two main tollways consisting 25 THB and 50 THB respectively (Bangkok tollway fees correct as of April 2024).

How long does a Grab taxi take from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to the City?

Grab Taxi vs the Bangkok Airport Rail Link train

As a comparison, a possibly quicker way to get from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to downtown Bangkok is via the Bangkok Airport Rail Link train, costing 45 THB from the airport to the final stop (Phaya Thai).

However, if your hotel is far away from Phaya Thai, you may still need to get additional public transport or a taxi to your final destination.

The Bangkok Airport Rail Link train takes 26 minutes from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to the final stop in downtown Bangkok – Phaya Thai station.

There are up to 6 Bangkok Airport Rail Link trains departing every hour from Bangkok International Airport (Suvarnabhumi) to Bangkok City (around 110 trains per day).

Suvarnabhumi Airport metered taxis vs Grab taxis

If you don’t wish to use a Grab Taxi (or none are available), another way to get a taxi to Bangkok city is to use the official taxi rank on the same level (level 1).

Be sure to take a metered taxi from the official rank or you might overpay, a common Thailand tourist scam. Read our guide to the top 20 Thailand Tourist Scams & Crimes to watch out for >

We’d also recommend having lots of change or the correct money as not all Thailand taxi drivers seem to carry change.

Bangkok Airport Grab taxi tipping

Tipping Grab drivers in Thailand isn’t mandatory or expected but is always appreciated, especially as Grab Thailand takes a large part of your taxi fare as commission.

Based on our 429 THB fare from Bangkok Airport to Bangkok City, we noticed over the driver’s shoulder that he was only getting 312 THB which meant Grab Thailand were taking around 25% commission from the driver.

Because of traffic, our ride from the airport to the city was over 90 minutes and our Grab Driver was excellent so we tipped around 20% (100 THB) on a circa 500 THB fare.

Other things to know about Grab taxis

  • ATMs can be found at Bangkok airport should you need to take out cash. There are also two ATMS (Krungthai Bank and Siam Commercial Bank) about 10 meters away from the Grab pick-up point. These are located outside and to the left of exit gate 4. If you’d rather, you can register your payment card / credit card on the Grab taxi app.
  • Baggage trolleys must be left inside the airport and should not be taken to the pick-up point.

  • Our final ‘practical tip’ (although more common sense really). Don’t take pictures at Bangkok Airport when going through immigration. We noticed several travellers ignore the signs, take snaps only for security to quickly intervene and make them delete pics – don’t be that doosh-bag tourist!
