Kuala Lumpur Christmas lights, Christmas events & markets 2024

Kuala Lumpur’s Christmas lights and displays are a seasonal spectacle to behold – as Christmas is a national holiday in Malaysia, epic Christmas events in Kuala Lumpur are embraced, especially in KL’s shopping malls and theme parks.
Kuala Lumpur at Christmas and New Year lights up with a feast of festive favourite and classic Christmas markets and events – Kuala Lumpur at Christmas in 2024 is no different. In fact, a KL Xmas is always XL!
From Pavilion’s Winter Wonderland to KLCC’s Suria gingerbread village (and a HUGE Christmas tree at the new Exchange TRX), here is our guide to the best Kuala Lumpur Christmas lights, displays and events in 2024 (with pictures).

1. Pavilion Kuala Lumpur – Christmas Magic
15th November 2024 – early January 2025 TBC
For our money, the Pavilion shopping center puts on the best Kuala Lumpur Christmas light display.
Every year, they seek to do something big and bigger. We visited the Pavilion’s Kuala Lumpur Christmas display for 2023 in mid November and were astounded by the sheer spectacle.
The Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Christmas Village has everything from a festive Christmas carousel which the little ones can ride through to animatronic reindeer and Santa himself.
Look up and you’ll also see lots of Christmas trees twirling and twinkling from the roof. If you are in the mood for shopping, there is sometimes a top spenders Christmas competition this year where you can win a new iPhone (as Santa probably won’t have one in his sack for you).
Also outside Pavilion KL every December, you’ll see a pop-up Christmas tree set-up (usually sponsored by a famous brand like Cartier) around the famous tea-cup fountain.
Just across the road at Fahreinheit88 shopping centre (another popular KL mall), there is a small Christmas village inside selling lots of toys and decorations. Sephora puts up a large Christmas present display every year and will likely do so in Christmas 2024..
With so many pop-ups and malls, the Golden Triangle / Bukit Bintang area is one of the top spots for Christmas displays in Kuala Lumpur.

2. The Exchange TRX Mall – Christmas Activities
Late November 2024 – 7th January 2025
KL’s newest mall The Exchange opened on 29th November 2023 with 400 new stores launching including Maison Kitsune, Gentle Monster and Malaysia’s only Apple store.
We were one of the first to visit The Exchange TRX to see their KL Christmas decorations including their huge Christmas tree outside, plus Santa on the rooftop and a very chic Chanel Christmas Village – we think these are much more classy Christmas decorations than the Pavilion shopping mall.
As you can expect from KL’s newest mall, The Exchange TRX on our visit was incredibly busy with half the shops and restaurants still to open – the rooftop in particular is a great space (there is even a reindeer and Christmas on the roof that lights up at night).
This Christmas, an Immersive Alice Saves Wonderland experience takes place on level 2 from the 26 October to 29 December 2024 (below Shake Shack).
The Exchange TRX’s other Christmas promotion for 2024 is still TBC at the time of writing – in 2023, it was The Extraordinary Gift Exchange whereby if you spend 1,500 MYR, you receive an aromatic Christmas candle (or spend 3,000 to get a artisanal charcuterie board set).

3. Suria KLCC Mall at Christmas
24th November 2024 to 1st January 2025 (TBC)
Along with Pavilion shopping mall one of the best Kuala Lumpur Christmas displays and events is the magical Christmas village at Suria KLCC, plus Malaysia’s largest artificial Christmas tree on the concourse outside.
Last year’s KLCC Suria Christmas Gingerbread Village was a gingerbread post office at Centre Court (crumbs), a gingerbread man augmented reality chase plus a festive photo booth (get a Santa selfie!). We can’t wait to see what they do in Christmas 2024!

4. LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre
Last year (2023) was a ‘Smileyworld’ Christmas Happy Celebration – Christmas 2024 activation TBC
Well if this didn’t make you smile last Christmas, then nothing will! Lalaport BBCC was taken over by a huge smiley faces and a smiley themed yellow Christmas tree courtesy of ‘Smileyworld’.
As well as a small but smiley Christmas village inside complete with a few Christmas stalls and Christmas wrapping services, there was also a couple of Christmas trees outside the main entrance.
The Kuala Lumpur Christmas fun LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre continues throughout December 2024 – expect with various events like a Christmas marching band and meet and greets with Santa.

5. Genting Winter Wonderland
Late November 2024 to 1st January 2025
Discover Father Christmas’s toy factory at Genting Winter Wonderland. New for 2024, Genting Winter Wonderland returns with a brand new element – an epic, seasonal Santa’s Toy Factory full of gifts and joy (open from 10am to 10pm daily)
Promising lots of Christmas lights and festive decor across Kimhua Atrium and Madison Square, Genting Winter Wonderland also has one of the largest Christmas trees in Kuala Lumpur – a shimmering 40 foot Christmas tree awaits at Madison Square (the perfect seasonal selfie spot).
Other events for 2024 included a Christmas dance show, mischievous Christmas elves, Xmas party in the park and carols around the Christmas tree. You can also catch a CNBLUE Live in Asia concert on the 7 December 2024 in the Arena of Star.
At Genting Winter Wonderland 2023, you can also meet Santa Claus & Miss Claus from 22nd December 2023 to 1st January 2024 at 12pm, 2pm, 3:30pm, 5pm, 7pm and 9pm – don’t forget your Christmas wish list (if you’ve been nice and not naughty).
There are also likely of lots of Kuala Lumpur Christmas shopping bargains to be had at the nearby Genting Highlands Premium Shopping Outlet.
Malaysia’s shopping mall in the sky, Genting Highlands Premium Outlets is one of the best shopping centers in Kuala Lumpur in a very unique setting.
With around 150 designer outlet stores and big brands like Nike, Adidas and Tommy Hilfiger at big discounts, it is also one of the best things to do in Genting Highlands and easily combined with a day-trip to Genting World or the new Genting Skyworlds Theme Park.

6. NU Sentral / KL Sentral
‘Christmas’ campaign TBC– 1st December 2024 to 1st January 2025
As the 2024 details are yet to be confirmed, Harry Potter came to Kuala Lumpur last Christmas – or at least a version of it at NU Sentral Shopping Mall.
Located on the ground floor, there was a small Harry Potter style Christmas display, complete with a huge train, magical books and scenery plus a huge Christmas tree covered in magical items like broom sticks and a huge hat.
Although it wasn’t branded as Harry Potter (we guess JK Rowling’s lawyers were watching), they’ve tried to recreate the magic without the official branding – you could even hold the luggage trolley on a recreation on platform 9 ¾.
As well as the Spellbinding Christmas theme at NU Sentral in KL Sentral, there are usually a couple of Christmas shops plus Santa himself walking around to meet children.
Whilst there, you can also pop into the newly opened Uniqlo which opened last December plus a new Japanese Don Don Donki store – more on this later.

7. Berjaya Times Square KL Christmas Town
Christmas Magic – Late November 2024 to 2nd January 2025
All aboard the Berjaya Times Square Christmas Express – one of KL’s largest malls (complete with Malaysia’s largest indoor theme park and around 1000 stores), Berjaya Times unveils a huge Christmas tree and Christmas Village every year.
We visited Berjaya Times Square Christmas Town in early December 2023 and it was truly a winter wonderland.
There were 6 festive themed buildings you could go into including a Christmas kitchen where Santa Claus was eating his dinner plus a fireside lounge where you can sit in a red chair and pose for Santa selfies.
You’ll also find a few Christmas themed pop up shops like the boutique chocolate cabin.
Try to time your Kuala Lumpur Christmas visit to Berjaya Times Square with their 2024 Christmas events. There is usually a live Christmas band and Santa appearances throughout December plus live music on New Year’s Eve.
Whilst there, jump aboard the themed indoor train (very Polar Express) which you can ride around the mall (for a small charge) plus a new underground speedway go-kart track has recently opened in the basement levels at Berjaya Times Square.

8. Legoland Malaysia Bricktacular Christmas (a day trip from Kuala Lumpur)
From late November 2024 to early January 2025
From Giant LEGO Duplo trees to a ‘bricktastic’ Santa’s cabin, Legoland Malaysia has got you covered this Christmas.
There are some really wonderful fantastic plastic events at LegoLand this Christmas from Santa’s helper live to Santa’s Holiday Spectacular. Look out for Ollie the Dragon, the Wizard (and not forgetting Father Christmas too).
On Christmas Eve (December 24th), there is a cracking Christmas buffet where you can eat Christmas food and meet Santa plus on Christmas Day, there is a Bricktacular parade at Legoland Malaysia
Down the road, you can also take part in Merry Fish-mas activities at Sea Life Malaysia including meeting Santa Sharkie and writing a letter to Scuba Santa.
Christmas admission fees apply for both Legoland Malaysia and Sea Life Malaysia.

9. KL Menara Tower at Christmas and New Year
Tickets are already on sale for Kuala Lumpur New Year’s Eve 2024 tickets at KL Menara Tower starting from 88 MYR per person for both adults and children aged 5-12 years.
One of the most popular places to enjoy a spectacular Christmas dinner buffet in Kuala Lumpur is at the KL Menara Tower, in their incredible revolving restaurant, ARAS Restaurant KL Tower.
There are usually special Christmas and Year End dinners hosted on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve / New Year’s Day 2025 but menus are not currently available at the time of writing. Keep checking the ARAS Restaurant menu section here >

10. Saloma Bridge
Kuala Lumpur is lit at Christmas! And none more so than at Saloma Bridge, KL’s newest tourist attraction that has become incredibly popular on Instagram and TikTok.
Located close to KLCC, Saloma Bridge is an iconic structure that connects the historic Kampung Baru district with the newer skyscrapers and city scape of ‘modern’ Kuala Lumpur.
Illuminated each night in bright colours, Saloma Bridge in Kuala Lumpur is a must visit next time you are in Malaysia.

11. Christmas Shopping at Don Don Donki
Looking for Christmas decorations in Kuala Lumpur or cheap Christmas presents? Don Don Donki, Japan’s favourite discount store has several branches in KL including ia newly opened stall at NU Sentral plus a big store in Bukit Bintang below Lot 10.
Originally known as Don Quijote in its homeland of Japan where it has hundreds of stores all over the country, Don Don Donki as it is branded in Malaysia and is a great place to get fun gifts or decorations like tinsel and toys.
Even their famous penguin mascot DonPen seemingly wears a red and white Father Christmas style hat all year round!

- As Christmas day is a national holiday in Malaysia, there are lots of Christmas buffets and special Christmas lunches and set menus available in Kuala Lumpur.
