Kuala Lumpur’s Christmas lights and displays are a seasonal spectacle to behold – as Christmas is a national holiday in Malaysia, epic Christmas events in Kuala Lumpur are embraced, especially in the shopping malls and theme parks.
KL at Christmas and New Year lights up with a feast of festive favourite and classic Christmas markets and events – Kuala Lumpur at Christmas in 2023 is no different.
From Pavilion’s Winter Wonderland to KLCC’s Suria gingerbread village (and a HUGE Christmas tree at the new Exchange TRX), here is our guide to the best Kuala Lumpur Christmas lights, displays and events in 2023 (with pictures):

1. Pavilion Kuala Lumpur – Christmas Love & Magic
17th November 2023 – 7th January 2024
For our money, the Pavilion shopping center puts on the best Kuala Lumpur Christmas light display.
Every year, they seek to do something big and bigger. We visited Pavilion’s Kuala Lumpur Christmas display for 2023 in mid November and were not disappointed by the sheer spectacle.
The Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Christmas Village has everything from a festive Christmas carousel which the little ones can ride through to animatronic reindeer and Santa himself.
Look up and you’ll also see lots of Christmas trees twirling and twinkling from the roof. If you are in the mood for shopping, there is also a top spenders Christmas competition this year where you can win an iPhone 15 (as Santa probably won’t have one in his sack for you).
Also outside Pavilion KL this year (December 2023), you’ll see a pop-up Cartier Christmas tree set-up around the famous tea-cup fountain.
Just across the road at Fahreinheit88 shopping centre, there is a small Christmas village inside selling lots of toys and decorations. Sephora has also put up a large Christmas present display here for 2023.
With so many pop-ups and malls, the Golden Triangle / Bukit Bintang area is one of the top spots for Christmas displays in Kuala Lumpur.

2. The Exchange TRX Mall – Christmas Activities and The ‘Extraordinary Gift Exchange
24th November 2023 – 7th January 2024
KL’s newest mall The Exchange opened on 29th November 2023 with 400 new stores launching including Maison Kitsune, Gentle Monster and Tipsy Flamingo Bar.
We were one of the first to visit The Exchange TRX to see their KL Christmas decorations including their huge Christmas tree outside, plus Santa on the rooftop and a very chic Chanel Christmas Village – we think these are much more classy Christmas decorations than the Pavilion shopping mall.
As you can expect from KL’s newest mall, The Exchange TRX on our visit was incredibly busy with half the shops and restaurants still to open – the rooftop in particular is a great space (there is even a reindeer and Christmas on the roof that lights up at night).
The Exchange TRX has lots of KL Christmas events in 2023 including Christmas music performances on the garden canopy on selected evenings plus more activities at the weekends like Santa’s Festive Parade plus Christmas themed workshops.
The Exchange TRX’s other Christmas promotion for 2023 is The Extraordinary Gift Exchange whereby if you spend 1500 MYR, you receive an aromatic Christmas candle (or spend 3,000 to get a artisanal charcuterie board set).
3. Suria KLCC Mall at Christmas
24th November 2023 to 1st January 2024
Along with Pavilion shopping mall one of the best Kuala Lumpur Christmas displays and events is the magical Christmas village at Suria KLCC, plus Malaysia’s largest artificial Christmas tree on the concourse outside.
This year’s KL Christmas Gingerbread Village has a gingerbread post office at Centre Court (crumbs), a gingerbread man augmented reality chase plus a festive photo booth (get a Santa selfie!)
2023 Christmas events in KLCC Suria include a gingerbread cookie decorating workshop on 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and 25th December 2023 at 2pm and 5pm, plus better still, you can even meet Santa Claus on the same days at 1pm and 4pm.

4. LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre
A ‘Smileyworld’ Christmas Happy Celebration – 24th November to 26th December 2023
Well if this doesn’t make you smile this Christmas, then nothing will! Lalaport BBCC has been taken over by a huge smiley faces and a smiley themed yellow Christmas tree courtesy of ‘Smileyworld’
As well as a small but smiley Christmas village inside complete with a few Christmas stalls and Christmas wrapping services, there are also a couple of Christmas trees outside the main entrance.
The Kuala Lumpur Christmas fun LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre continues throughout December 2023 with various events like a Christmas marching band on 2nd, 16th and 25th December (at 2pm).
Plus a Santa and ‘Santarina’ (no, we aren’t sure either!) walkabout on 9th, 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, 25th and 26th December at 1pm and 4pm.

5. Genting Winter Wonderland
25th November 2023 to 1st January 2023
Discover Father Christmas’s toy factory at Genting Winter Wonderland. New for 2023, Genting Winter Wonderland returns with a brand new element – an epic, seasonal Santa’s Toy Factory full of gifts and joy (open from 10am to 10pm daily).
Promising lots of Christmas lights and festive decor across Kimhua Atrium and Madison Square, Genting Winter Wonderland also has one of the largest Christmas trees in Kuala Lumpur – a shimmering 40 foot Christmas tree awaits at Madison Square (the perfect seasonal selfie spot).
Other events for 2023 included a Christmas dance show, mischievous Christmas elves, Xmas party in the park and carols around the Christmas tree.
At Genting Winter Wonderland 2023, you can also meet Santa Claus & Miss Claus from 22nd December 2023 to 1st January 2024 at 12pm, 2pm, 3:30pm, 5pm, 7pm and 9pm – don’t forget your Christmas wish list (if you’ve been nice and not naughty).
Genting Winter Wonderland in KL is free admission and open from 25th November 2023 to 1st January 2024.

6. NU Sentral / KL Sentral
‘A Spellbinding Christmas’ – 1st December 2023 to 1st January 2024
Harry Potter comes to Kuala Lumpur this Christmas – or at least a version of it at NU Sentral Shopping Mall.
Located on the ground floor, there is a small Harry Potter style Christmas display, complete with a huge train, magical books and scenery plus a huge Christmas tree covered in magical items like broom sticks and a huge hat.
Although it isn’t branded as Harry Potter (we guess JK Rowling’s lawyers are watching), they’ve tried to recreate the magic without the official branding – you can even hold the luggage trolley on a recreation on platform 9 ¾
As well as the Spellbinding Christmas theme at NU Sentral in KL Sentral, there are a couple of Christmas shops plus Santa himself will be walking around to meet children on 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and 25th December 2023 between 1pm and 4pm (Harry must be busy!)
Whilst there, you can also pop into the newly opened Uniqlo which opened on 1st December plus a new Japanese Don Don Donki store opens later in the month.

7. Berjaya Times Square KL Christmas Town
Christmas Magic – 24th November 2023 to 2nd January 2024
All aboard the Berjaya Times Square Christmas Express – one of KL’s largest malls (complete with Malaysia’s largest indoor theme park and around 1000 stores), Berjaya Times unveils a huge Christmas tree and Christmas Village every year.
We visited Berjaya Times Square Christmas Town in early December 2023 and it truly is a winter wonderland.
There are 6 festive themed buildings you can go into including a Christmas kitchen where Santa Claus is eating his dinner plus a fireside lounge where you can sit in a red chair and pose for Santa selfies.
You’ll also find a few Christmas themed pop up shops like the boutique chocolate cabin.
Try to time your Kuala Lumpur Christmas visit to Berjaya Times Square with their Christmas events. There will be a live Christmas band and Santa appearances on 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 24th and 25th December 2023 at 3pm plus on New Year’s Eve (and December 30th), there will be live music at 3pm.
Whilst there, jump aboard the themed indoor train (very Polar Express) which you can ride around the mall (for a small charge) plus a new underground speedway go-kart track has recently opened in the basement levels at Berjaya Times Square.
8. Legoland Malaysia Bricktacular Christmas
From 24th November 2023
From Giant LEGO Duplo trees to a ‘bricktastic’ Santa’s cabin, Legoland Malaysia has got you covered this Christmas in Kuala Lumpur.
There are some really wonderful fantastic plastic events at LegoLand KL this Christmas from Santa’s helper live to Santa’s Holiday Spectacular. Look out for Ollie the Dragon, the Wizard (and not forgetting Father Christmas too).
On Christmas Eve (December 24th), there is a cracking Christmas buffet where you can eat Christmas food and meet Santa plus on Christmas Day in KL, there is a Bricktacular parade at Legoland Malaysia
Down the road, you can also take part in Merry Fish-mas activities at Sea Life Malaysia including meeting Santa Sharkie and writing a letter to Scuba Santa.
Christmas admission fees apply for both Legoland Malaysia KL and Sea Life Malaysia.

9. KL Menara Tower at Christmas
One of the most popular places to enjoy a spectacular Christmas dinner buffet in KL is at the KL Menara Tower, in their incredible revolving restaurant, Atmosphere 360.
There are special Christmas and Year End dinners hosted on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve / New Year’s Day 2024 starting from 388 MYR per adult (and 288 MYR for senior citizens and children). Check out the full list of festive feasts at KL Menara Tower here >
Also every weekend throughout December 2023, the KL Menara Tower will be hosting KL Tower Feast.
On December 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and 25th plus 30th December to 1st January 2024, there will be dozens of food trucks at the base of KL Menara Tower cooking up a treat between 10am and 10pm including Mimie Coconut Shake and Let’s Roll It.
Entry to KL Tower Feast in December is free but admission fees apply to KL Menara Tower.

10. Saloma Bridge
Kuala Lumpur is lit at Christmas! And none more so than at Saloma Bridge, KL’s newest tourist attraction that has become incredibly popular on Instagram and TikTok.
Located close to KLCC, Saloma Bridge is an iconic structure that connects the historic Kampung Baru district with the newer skyscrapers and city scape of ‘modern’ Kuala Lumpur.
Illuminated each night in bright colours, Saloma Bridge in Kuala Lumpur is a must visit next time you are in Malaysia.

- As Christmas day is a national holiday in Malaysia, there are lots of Christmas buffets and special Christmas lunches and set menus available in Kuala Lumpur such as the Christmas Eve buffet at Legoland Windsor.
Other popular Christmas Kuala Lumpur specials include the Westin KL, Pullman KLCC and the Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
