As first-time visitors to Bratislava with only a limited amount of time to explore, we wanted to experience as much as possible so opted to do the ‘The traditional food tour’ with Bratislava Food Tours, based on the positive Tripadvisor reviews.
We were so glad we did as this was one of the best food tours we have ever done (and we were so full of delicious food and drink by the end). Starting the tour in the shadow of Bratislava castle, we were greeted by Linda, bearing traditional blueberry brandy (Čučoriedkovica) – always a good start to a tour in our opinion!
We were then treated to a guided walk around Bratislava, visiting several different food and drink outlets including a brewery, a traditional café, restaurant, dessert shop and much more. Linda was extremely warm and friendly, and provided heaps of information on the local history and geography, as well as some very funny stories! All the food and drink we tried were incredibly delicious, hearty and plentiful.
Here is a look at what we ate!

At the end of the tour, we finished near one of the main squares to enjoy a coffee and a traditional Slovakian dessert. Linda also presented us with some small souvenir reminders of our time in Bratislava which was a lovely touch. If you have a spare half day in Bratislava and want to experience a wide variety of local dishes in traditional settings, I cannot recommend this tour enough. In two words, nom nom!
You can book this tour online here. The Traditional food tour runs everyday at 1pm and lasts 4 hours, costing €65 per person. Linda also offers other food and drink experiences such as a local craft beer tour, a sweet tooth tour and a seasonal christmas market one.
Tip – make sure to pace yourselves as there is so much good food to saviour. Wear stretchy trousers or a belt you can loosen : )
