Silent disco | A guide to the most amazing events in London

There is a new craze sweeping across London at the moment and you may or may not be familiar with it. For anyone who doesn’t know what a silent disco is – it’s basically a normal club night out – except the music is listened to through headphones. Combined with the unique locations chosen to host them, they make a fun and memorable night out (and amazing for your Instagram feed!).

I’ve been fortunate to attend 3 silent disco club night events held by Time Out London over the last few months at these venues – The View at the Shard, SEA LIFE Aquarium and the Cutty Sark in Greenwich.

When you arrive at each of the events you are handed a pair of comfy wireless headphones. Each set light up in 3 different colours (red, green or blue) according to which DJ you have chosen to listen to (there is a switch on the left hand side of the headphones to toggle between them). Also on the right hand side is a volume knob to control how loud you want the sound to be. Each channel plays a different type of music genre – there is always one playing urban/dance, and one playing cheesy tunes (including Disney classics). So there is usually something for everyone, and if a song comes on that you hate – easy… just switch to another DJ!

Drinks are slightly expensive and the bars are mostly cash only. If you are going to the London Aquarium silent disco, there is an option to purchase a £20 wristband which gets you unlimited drinks (this is so worth doing!).

The crowds are always lively and enthusiastic, and the atmosphere feels non pretentious. It is very amusing when you take your headphones off and you can listen to everyone’s loud out of tune singing!

I would definitely recommend these nights out as the silent disco element is amazing itself, but having them held in such special venues makes it all the more of an experience. Definitely one of the best things i’ve done in London! The tickets are a tad pricey but well worth it, head to Time Out London online shop for more ticket information. I’m keeping my fingers crossed they will add some more interesting venues in the future, in which case I’ll update this page!

Below is my video and some of my photographs from each of the events.
