The Golden Temple hotel in Siem Reap may be one of our all time favourite hotel experiences. That is a bold statement, but it is so true. This is the first time a hotel really exceeded our expectations. The Golden Temple is a small boutique hotel located in the city centre of Siem Reap in Cambodia. We made a booking for two nights with 5 members of Caroline’s family after reading great Tripadvisor reviews and liking the location of it.
From the moment you are picked up from the airport until you leave, you are treated like royalty. They make every effort to make your stay as comfortable as possible and are super friendly. Here are the reasons why we loved my stay so much:

The many complimentary extras
By booking directly with Golden Temple hotel ($100 usd per night) we received heaps of awesome freebies including:
• A free buffet breakfast everyday
• Complimentary airport transfers
• A free 1 hour body or foot massage each in their onsite spa
• A free set dinner in the hotel restaurant each
• A free packed lunch each to take to the temples (you get to choose from 2 incredible set menus)
• A free snack box each
Our party of 7 people also received a bonus free set dinner with traditional dance show in their sister restaurant ‘The Golden Retreat’ a 5 minute walk away.
The personal airport pick up
Our group of 7 were picked up from the airport by a driver from the Golden Temple hotel and also a member of the hotel reception team. We were handed cold towels, chilled cans of local beer and a small gift of a scarf. This was a wonderful start to our stay and we hadn’t even reached the hotel yet!

The welcome drinks and snacks at Golden Temple hotel in Siem Reap
When we arrived at the Golden Temple hotel we were greeted with more cold towels, and told to relax in their comfortable reception area whilst 2 large platters of drinks and snacks were laid infront of us (including some delicious sticky rice).

Golden Temple hotel room
Our room was great – it felt cosy yet large and bright. They were decorated in a traditional Khmer style with Cambodian handicrafts. I was so glad that I booked a pool view room as the scenery from the balcony was lovely. There is a DVD player in the room along with some films about Angkor Wat and the Killing Fields, plus a minibar with snacks and drinks. There were also bathrobes which are handy for heading down to the pool in!

The relaxing pool
The pool was a good size and a lovely temperature. It never felt busy and there were always plenty of sun loungers available. The sound of the waterfall and the other water features drowned out the noises of the busy city nearby so it felt like a calm and peaceful oasis.

Happy Hour
One of our favourite perks was the daily happy hour at 6pm. Complimentary drinks are served on the ‘Sky Terrace’ but we drunk our beers whilst relaxing by the pool after a long day of sightseeing. The guy running the happy hour was fantastic and was constantly bringing us more cans of Angkor beer and snacks – amazing service!

The delicious food at Golden Temple hotel in Siem Reap
On our first night we booked our complimentary 3 course dinner in their restaurant and were served some delicious Cambodian Khmer cuisine which was beautifully presented. The restaurant is located on a large balcony with a great view of the pool lit up at night.

Breakfast is served in the same room as dinner and there is a great selection of Khmer and western dishes in the buffer. There is also a ‘made to order’ breakfast menu on every table where you can order meals like eggs benedict and waffles.

On our second night the 7 of us jumped into some tuk tuk’s and headed to their sister restaurant ‘Golden Retreat’ down the road. We were treated to another delicious Khmer set course meal, some cocktails and a fantastic traditional Cambodian dance show which was such good fun!

Tour bookings
The hotel were extremely helpful in booking transport for our day exploring the temples in Angkor Wat. We booked a minibus for half a day for all of us for 40usd (so cheap!). We however encountered a problem with our driver a couple of hours into our trip – we could not find him in the carpark and he wasn’t answering his phone. The hotel swiftly organised another van to come to replace him, and the staff were extremely apologetic upon our return back to the hotel – such incredible service.

The location
The location of the hotel was so good! It was a short 5 minute walk to the night markets, the river and Pub Street which has loads of bars and restaurants!

We would highly recommend this hotel – its a 5 star experience in a 3 star hotel with an excellent team of staff. We are already planning a return visit, but for a much longer stay!
Check out Golden Temple hotel for their rates and offers. I highly recommend booking a room with a pool view. If you book your room directly with the hotel online you’ll receive a heap of freebies.
